Basrah Building (Basrah Int’l Building-Construction, Municipality Equipment, Machinery & Natural Stone Exhibition) has been organized anually by Pyramids Group Fair since 2010 in Basrah, Iraq. This year the fair will be held the fourth. Needs of the country and the success of the fair show that the fair will be held for a long time as a candidate of leading fair in the sector.
Modern day Iraq has slowly emerged as a democratic state for ten years. A few decades, Iraqi people have suffered the consequences of economic stagnation and reduced access to essential services due to wars, sanctions and conflicts. But, country has been cleaning ruins of the war and changing its face. The change is getting visible now.(1)
The Government of Iraq is pursuing a strategy to gain foreign investment in Iraq's economy. This includes an amendment to the National Investment Law, multiple international trade and investment events, as well as potential participation in joint ventures with state-owned enterprises. Provincial Councils also are using their own budgets to promote and facilitate investment at the local level.(2)
Iraq’s reconstruction has created a huge demand for construction expertise and capital. The real estate development, construction, and building material industries are all ripe for investment. The large number of construction projects in industrial sectors and infrastructure will require vast amounts of building materials, design capacity, and construction expertise. Opportunities are available across all geographic areas and the already high demand will continue to grow.(3)
As a UFI member and the leading fair organizer in the Middle East and North Africa, Pyramids has provided chances to seize these opportunities for corporations. Basrah Building is one of these chances. Pyramids provides professional support to the participants at all necessary subjects related with the fairs. It is provided by collecting the data base from chamber of commerce & industries, councils, associations, businessmen; inviting the “hosted buyer delegations” from the regional chamber of commerce, one by one with VIP invatitions in order to organize B2B meetings; organizing matchmaking of the delegations with the exhibitors.
Fair is held at the Pyramids’ own fairground – Basrah International Fairground – in Basrah. Basrah is home to all six of Iraq’s ports, including its only deep-water port, and is thus the major transportation nexus in the southern part of the country. Its global position makes Basrah the most important trade center in Iraq.
List of exhibitors has a wide range: from building materials & equipments & machines to stone & stone products; from electrical equipments & supplies to lighting & air conditioning ; from environmental & water technology to security equipments etc. List of visitors also has a wide range: government authorities, local governorate/municipality, international companies representatives located in Basrah, decision-makers from neighboring countries , merchants, investors, distributors etc.
The latest exhibition -3rd Basrah Building- was held between 16-19 December 2012. The official opening ceremony was held with the participation of Deputy Governor of Basrah, Mr. Nezar Rabeea Al Jabri; General Consular of Turkey in Basrah, Mr. Faruk Kaymakcı; Iranian General Consul in Basrah; Russian General Consul in Basrah; Commercial Attache of Turkey; BasrahChamber of Commerce; Basrah Business Council.
The 3rd Basrah Building attracted near 200 brand names from 6 countries, covering a full range of the latest constrution technologies and solutions. There were national pavilions from Turkey, Italy and Iraq. Covering large scale of building & construction industry & sub-sectors with full support from local and regional trade unions, associations, governmental and ministerial bodies and chambers of commerce increased the event’s importance even higher. Basrah Building was visited by nearly 8.321 visitors (3.756 of the visitors are proffesional) during 4 days event.
Next exhibition will be held between 3-6 October 2013. Previous successfull exhibition and ongoing rise of the country needs let us to expect 300 brand names and 10.000 visitors at 4th Basrah Building. Apart from individual participants, it is already known that there will be national pavilions from Turkey, Italy, Iran and Iraq. Let’s rebuild together the country in Basrah.
