Introduction to ITS, ITS standards, and NTCIP – Monday April 02
This workshop serves as an introduction to intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and an introduction to the ITS standards; the workshop also provides an introductory to mid-level presentation of the NTCIP (National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol) family of communication standards. As various agencies and concessionaires construct the transportation infrastructure, it is important to utilize standards wherever possible to enable the incremental deployment of ITS technology and to support the benefits of regional ITS operation. NTCIP is an increasingly important standard used for communications in signal control systems and advanced traffic management, including both center-to-center, and center-to-field communications supporting central control systems software, traffic controllers, CCTV cameras, vehicle detectors, variable message signs, etc.

Road Safety Applications – Tuesday April 03
The training workshops will teach the attendees the proper steps to follow to make a road safer by eliminating the hazard, moving the hazard, making the hazard less rigid. In addition to learning about the technologies that are successfully eliminating needless deaths on roads around the world, attendees will better understand which of these technologies are appropriate for their local conditions. They also will be introduced to the performance testing criteria being utilized in the United States (NCHRP 350) and in Europe (EN-1317) to allow them to make intelligent, cost effective choices.
