Lisbon, May 13, 2025 – The Intermunicipal Community of the Leiria Region (CIM Leiria) has been officially announced as the Guest Region at this year’s Portugal Smart Cities Summit, taking place from June 3 to 5, 2025, at FIL – Parque das Nações, Lisbon. The summit is organized by the AIP Foundation and is recognized as the country’s largest event dedicated to the development and future of smart cities.
With a strong focus on innovation, inclusion, and territorial sustainability, CIM Leiria’s presence at the summit reflects its growing reputation as a leader in integrated and intelligent regional development. This 26th edition of the summit will gather public institutions, businesses, academia, and technology providers to explore collaborative solutions that improve the quality of life and efficiency of urban systems.
Gonçalo Lopes, President of CIM Leiria, emphasized the importance of the region’s role at the event:
“Being selected as the Guest Region is a great opportunity to showcase the Leiria Region as a Smart and Inclusive Territory. Strategically located in central Portugal, between Lisbon and Porto, our region—comprising the municipalities of Alvaiázere, Ansião, Batalha, Castanheira de Pera, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Leiria, Marinha Grande, Pedrógão Grande, Pombal, and Porto de Mós—has become a hub for knowledge and innovation.
We are proud to be attracting increasing levels of investment and talent, particularly in the technology and digital infrastructure sectors. Our commitment to sustainability and inclusion is at the heart of this transformation, and we look forward to sharing our progress with a wider national and international audience.”
As part of its participation, CIM Leiria will host the conference “Smart Territories, Inclusive Cities” on June 4 at 15:00, in the Grand Auditorium of FIL. The session will feature leading experts discussing sustainable urban strategies and innovative solutions for creating inclusive communities.
The Portugal Smart Cities Summit 2025 is held under the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic and benefits from the institutional support of the Ministry of Environment and Energy. The event is expected to bring together key decision-makers from the public, private, and scientific sectors to foster partnerships and accelerate the smart transformation of Portuguese cities.
