Ferro Umformtechnik

Ferro Umformtechnik at bauma 2025

bauma 2025 is the world’s leading exhibition for the construction industry and related industries. From 7th to 13th April, Ferro Umformtechnik will be exhibiting in hall A6, stand 412, focussing on direct dialogue to discuss developments in sheet metal processing and laser welding technology.
Laser welding for high-performance designs

Ferro stands for stable and precise connections – both in laser welding technology and in close cooperation with its customers. The focus is on processing high-strength and wear-resistant steels that meet the highest safety and performance requirements.

Sustainability also plays an increasingly important role. High-strength steels not only enable weight-optimised components but also reduce the consumption of raw materials during steel production. This saves resources and reduces CO2 emissions. Lighter designs can also increase ranges, increase load capacities and reduce energy consumption. Furthermore, steel is fully recyclable and thus contributes to a circular economy.

Laser welding allows high-precision connections with a minimal heat-affected zone, thus reducing distortion, preserving material properties and ensuring consistently high seam quality. Welded profiles in particular benefit from high-strength and precise surfaces. Ferro offers a strong partner network in order to meet the requirements of the entire value chain through to the finished boom profile – a clear advantage for applications in height-access technology and other demanding industries.

Laser welding of metal sheets – new design possibilities

Laser welding of sheet metal creates new formats that are as such not directly available from steel suppliers. Instead of high-priced quarto sheets, which often have a lower surface quality, coil sheets can be used. Although coil sheets require a higher minimum order quantity, the precise welding of two coil sheets creates new formats with a high-quality surface – an economical and flexible alternative.

Furthermore, components can be produced in a single bending process without the need for separate welding processes. This reduces production times and ensures consistent tolerances over the entire component length. Especially in the commercial vehicle industry – such as for troughs and side walls – this technology enables more stable and durable designs. At the same time, weight-optimised designs can increase load capacities and open up new design solutions for various industries.

Precise bending technology – less weld seams, higher stability

In addition to laser welding, Ferro relies on state-of-the-art bending technologies in order to achieve a targeted reduction in weld seams – an advantage for components that are subject to high stresses, as weld seams are potential weak points. Precise cold forming up to 16,700 mm in length produces components with optimised edge geometries that help to improve the performance of machines and vehicles.

Automation and materials management

In order to be a pioneer in the industry, Ferro consistently invests in new manufacturing technologies and sets new benchmarks. An example: The first automated bending press for boom half shells up to a length of 12,500 mm – a further step towards increased process security, precision and efficiency.

Ferro works closely with steel suppliers in order to incorporate the findings from metal processing into the development of innovative steels and their weldability. For example, in current research projects the weldability of high-strength fine-grain steels with yield strengths of at least 1,300 MPa is being examined in order to further develop existing design standards. This opens up new potential for lighter, more efficient components, for instance as required in height-access technology.

Effective materials management and proactive in-house stock control allow Ferro to ensure a comprehensive service for its customers, enabling them to concentrate on their core business.
