Hyundai Construction Equipment’s has launched the newest of its all-round heavy-duty diesel forklifts – the compact but powerful 160D-9L. The new truck fills the gap between the 160D-9 and 180D-9 and offers an increased load capacity, extra safety, cost-effectiveness and operator comfort.
The new 160D-9L has a lift capacity of 16000 kg’s (16 tonne) and a load centre of 1200 mm – the chassis is the same size as the 18-tonne 180D-9. Another advantage to this new model is that it is 30 cm shorter than the 180D-9, which is a huge advantage, where working space is an issue.
The machine is driven by a high-powered Cummins QSB6.7 Engine 122 kW / 2,300 rpm engine, which offers optimised fuel consumption. The machine is designed for heavy-duty applications to move large, heavy material such as timber, lumber, containers, concrete products and steel products.
The Cummins stage IV compliant engine is ultra-low in emissions – it uses a diesel oxidation catalyst and a selective catalytic reactor (SCR) where ad blue is used as an additive to achieve stage IV emissions. This combination of DOC and SCR reduces down-time and in turn makes it ‘hassle free for the operator’.
Other advantages from using a high-output engine is greater acceleration, improved gradeability and a faster travel speed on any tough terrain or slope.
High technology systems
The combination of a ZF full-automatic transmission and a Kessler front axle makes the 160D-9L easy to handle and shifting gear is a smooth operation.
The machine is equipped with a load sensing hydraulic system – the Bosch Rexroth variable displacement pumps ensure that the machine power is used more efficiently and therefore helps reduce fuel consumption, which can equate to between 5 – 10% energy saving depending on the application.
The newly designed cabin provides excellent all-round visibility and plenty of space ensuring the operator is comfortable in his/her working environment. The cabin also benefits from a reduction in noise levels.
The position of the pedals has been revised and the steering column can also be adjusted to offer the operator a smoother drive and ultimate comfort whilst working. Added to this is the ergonomically designed suspended seat with weight adjustment system.
Advanced safety features
A speed limiter comes as standard which is easy to program via the machines display monitor enabling smooth and safe operation of the vehicle.
Depending on the application the operator can select engine mode with a quick adjustment to the side panel switch. STD Mode offers fuel reduction when the machine is on light-duty manoeuvres and POWER Mode for heavy duty work or when operating on a slope.
A load indicator, which is an optional extra, checks pressure in the lift cylinder to calculate the weight on the forks. The load is indicated on the display and if an overload occurs the operator is alerted by a warning sound and the display monitor will show the weight of the load flashing red.
For triplex masts the optimised lift cylinder arrangement provides the operator with wider visibility and the panoramic mirror improves the operators view when reversing. A rear-view camera, with up to four cameras either side, is also available as an option. The 160D-9L also benefits from improved mirror positioning which increases safety whilst operating the machine.
The advanced LCD digital colour monitor keeps the operator fully informed, not only about general operational data, but also safety warnings. Also when the operator is reversing a rear view camera (optional) is activated automatically on the screen for safe backwards manoeuvring.
To prevent the machine being operated by non-qualified personnel and to protect the truck from theft there is an engine start limit feature where personal activation with an entrance code is needed. Other theft prevention measures include a fuel lock hatch, to prevent fuel theft and an optional fuel cap.
A new electric hand brake system is combined with an anti-roll back function on the 160D-9L – this is linked to the OPSS (Operator Presence Sensing System). This means that if the machine is inclined more than three-degrees and the machine comes to a stop, the handbrake is automatically activated to prevent the machine rolling back. To release this function, the driver pushes the accelerator to regain normal movement without wheel spin.
Fast and easy maintenance
The 160D-9L benefits from an electro-hydraulic tilting cabin system which allows trouble-free access to all main components and makes servicing of all power train components quick and easy. A large engine hood makes the engine compartment very accessible and assures fast and efficient daily maintenance.
The 160D-9L is fitted with an advanced LCD digital colour monitor which keeps the operator fully informed, not only about general operational data, but also safety warnings and speed limits are visible. All the settings of the machine can be managed through the LCD display which also has trouble shooting tools that are able to reduce downtime and minimise the use of a laptop for diagnostics and repair. The dashboard is clearly laid out with all functions centralised for ease of use.
The engine and cooling systems are protected from clogging by rear tyre covers and if the machine is working in a harsh and dusty environment an additional undercover protective plate is available as an option.
Mast options include 3 – 7 metre Duplex and 3 – 7 metre Triplex masts. All masts offer maximum visibility to the driver.
The new Hyundai forklift range comes with a two-year 3000 hours full warranty from the factory. Extended warranty packages are available as an option.
The air conditioning system on this machine contains the fluorinated greenhouse gas refrigerant HFC-134a (Global Warming Potential = 1430). The system contains 0.55 kg of refrigerant which has a CO2 equivalent of 0.7865 metric tonne.
