Mega-projects Boost Growth Prospect of Thailand’s Construction Industry

The growth prospect of Thailand’s construction industry has got a major boost from the cabinet’s approval of USD26.7 billion investments for 54 mega-projects aiming to improve the country’s overall infrastructure network. Moreover, another 40 projects worth more than USD23.3 billion are awaiting to be approved.

The construction of ten electric train lines in Bangkok, which is scheduled to be completed by 2015, the expansion of commercial seaports and Suvarnabhumi airport are among top priorities. Also in the pipeline are rail routes connecting Bangkok and commercial provinces as well as to major cities of its neighboring countries. Other smaller- scale projects would include road construction and repairs of flood-ravaged infrastructure and public utilities.
In 2012, the construction industry overall in Thailand may continue to growth. Progress has been seen in many private sector construction projects, thanks mainly to the government’s residential property support scheme.
