(Neumünster) NordBau traditionally kicks off with an excursion for construction journalists on the Tuesday before the trade fair begins. This year, they will be visiting the construction site for the replacement of the Rader High Bridge. The A7 bridge over the Kiel Canal near Rendsburg is the central traffic axis to Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia. This makes it an important road construction project for Europe. Journalists can find out more about the challenges and technical innovations involved in this project from those responsible for its construction. It is also exemplary for many other measures that will be coming to the construction industry, particularly as a result of the recently approved investment sums for infrastructure. During the following five days of the fair, the exhibitors at NordBau will then show which machines and products they are ready and equipped with.
On the one hand, this is reflected in the fully booked outdoor area with its construction machinery and equipment. The latest developments in machine technology, occupational safety and effi ciency will be on display. For example, a special deep drilling rig will be presented, which can be used in ports and marine facilities in particular. And asphalting machines with the latest extraction technology will be ready for upcoming road construction projects.
On the other hand, the exhibition halls will also focus on innovative building materials that stand for energy efficiency, sustainability and modern construction. Innovative bricks and system wall elements can thus contribute to reduced construction times for interior walls and can be viewed at the trade fair. Companies from the brick industry will also be represented at the largest compact building trade fair in northern Europe, presenting their latest solutions and technologies for building with bricks. Bricks are a traditional building material with many advantages, especially in climatically challenging times. In building construction, for example, the funding announced for infrastructure projects – expansion of daycare centers, renovation of schools, new construction of new housing – gives hope to numerous exhibitors who use the trade fair as a presentation area for clients.
The cross-industry topic of personnel recruitment is another focal point of the trade fair, and at several levels.
This is the 13th year that nordjob Bau:Technik will take place. At this event, school pupils who are about to enter the job market or university can find out about career opportunities in the construction sector. Prepared and guided by the experienced staff of the Institute for Talent Development (IfT), around 1,000 young people from the northern German region go into targeted discussions with participating companies exhibiting at the fair. Others will simply take the opportunity to gain an overview of the diversity of the industry. IfT is constantly developing its offer and adapting it to demand. At NordBau 2025, for example, there will be an open hands-on area for the first time, which will explicitly focus on STEM professions and offer hands-on activities to try out and experience: To whet the appetite for construction-related professions – whether through training or studying.
In April, invited companies and HR managers were given information and advice on this topic by IfT managing directors and speakers at an exclusive information event at the NordBau exhibition center. The speakers provided background information and shared their experiences from numerous encounters in schools, which provided insights into the perspectives of young people. What is important when approaching prospective trainees? Which channels can you use and what steps can you take to make yourself attractive as an employer and make it easier to make con tact? How can I design my trade fair presence appropriately, also with a view to recruiting? A meeting with great added value for everyone involved.
Following the successful premiere at NordBau 2024, companies will once again have the opportunity to present themselves as employers in Hall 1 at this year’s trade fair – for skilled workers looking for a new job, and also for job starters. Contractors and clients can also come into direct and uncomplicated contact here. The construction industry association and construction trade association as well as their companies and well-known construction groups are further points of contact for employees in the building trade and building construction.
Looking ahead and constantly picking up on new impulses – this is what NordBau has stood for for many decades and this year it can celebrate its 70th anniversary. At the same time, the partnership with neighbouring Denmark has been in place for 50 years. To mark the occasion, the ambassador for the Kingdom of Denmark, Thomas Østrup Møller, will be coming to the trade fair. He will open the 70th NordBau together with Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Claus Ruhe Madsen, and Hamburg’s Senator for Urban Development and Housing, Karen Pein.
70th NordBau: 10th–14th September 2025, 9 am – 5 pm, Holstenhallen Exhibition Centre, Neumünster
