This summer, nearly 40,000 visitors attended Steinexpo 2011, Europe’s largest demonstration show for the extraction and construction materials industries – and Volvo Construction Equipment’s exhibition and live product demonstrations proved to be highlights of the show.
During the four-day expo in Europe’s largest basalt quarry in Homberg, Germany, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) showed off its newest product offerings, alongside more than 200 exhibitors representing 330 brands of the latest extraction and treatment technology. The exhibition, which takes place every three years, is considered the most important European demonstration show for the raw materials and construction materials industries.
“We focus a lot of attention on Steinexpo,” says Thorsten Poszwa, manager of marketing and communications for Volvo CE in Germany. “Because of its size, it’s a very important event for us. With the feedback we’ve received from our visitors so far, we certainly feel that our focus has paid off this year.”
In its 1,000-square-meter exhibition area, Volvo CE showcased its fuel efficient machines, including the new generation Volvo EC480D crawler excavator and a Volvo A30F articulated hauler. Construction tippers from Volvo Trucks were on display – but visitors were also given the opportunity to see the machines at work. On the quarry floor, the new Volvo L250G wheel loader – the industry’s first 35-tonne weight class loader – showed off its power and performance during live demonstrations.
After the demo shows, customers at Volvo CE’s question and answer sessions focused on new Volvo Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB engines, which offer market-leading performance and economy of operation in terms of power capacity, engine response and fuel efficiency.
Meanwhile at Steinexpo, operators from across Germany went head to head in a Volvo CE Operators Club contest of skill and precision: using a Volvo EC290D excavator to arrange lettered buckets to spell the word ‘Volvo’. Operators clubs provide operators with the chance to prove their skills in competitions around Europe, and the top three operators from Steinexpo will go on to compete in the European Final in late October at the Volvo Ocean Race’s home port of Alicante, Spain.
