After topography and the work of probing the terrain, the step to leveling the area takes place, either with the application of excavation works or with the execution of cuts and landfill.
Even though the Brazil Road Expo is already established as the leading fair for the roads and highways paving Market in Latin American, the solutions and technologies assembled for the event go far beyond the pavement itself, either asphalt or concrete. An example of a segment that has great importance in the product mix which is presented at the fair is the earth moving or Earth working. This is the step that ensures the proper preparation of the site that is going to receive the enterprise and that has direct impact on the final quality of the work.
After topography and the work of probing the terrain, the step to leveling the area takes place, either with the application of excavation works or with the execution of cuts and landfill. "A good work of earth moving, with the use of appropriate techniques and equipment ensures the prevention of such pathologies as erosion, infiltration, silting and landslides," explains engineer Guilherme Ramos, director of the Brazil Road Expo.
Among the major earth-moving equipment that will be presented by exhibitors from Brazil Road Expo are machines for digging, leveling, loading and compaction. Some examples are the wheel or mat loader, indicated for digging, leveling, truck loading, removing tree roots etc. The backhoes are suitable for excavation, trenching, grading and truck loading, as well as hydraulic excavators, which also face the removal of roots. For the leveling of large areas, the elected ones are bulldozers and motor graders, besides the motor scrapers, that make large-scale earth moving and short path transport.
In the next step of excavating equipment such as entering the roll paw ram for compacting soil where there landfill and still to perform finish smooth roll compaction roller after use of the Paw , or even to compact stone , sand, etc.
Like all technological developments involving the field of civil engineering, earthworks techniques needed to be modernized, so that there was gain in productivity and safety of the works. To have an idea, it is estimated that the production of 50 m3/h of excavation would require at least 100 workers. The same task can be performed by a single bulldozer, operated by a single operator.
Since the launch in 1920, of the first gasoline-powered tractor – to which a blade was soon adapted, hence starting the design and manufacturing of modern earthmoving equipment – the technological advancement of these took a real leap, and Brazil Road Expo will be a great showcase of the latest news from this segment.
Leveling
One of the highlights among the equipment to level the soil that will be presented in Brazil Road Expo will be the line of Volvo G900 motor graders, that rely on unique joysticks technology and still maintains the steering wheel, for greater operator safety. Volvo’s joysticks controls offer the operator a sensible and proportionate response to all hydraulic functions and handling equipment such as control of the blades, transmission, steering, articulation and of implements, that are configured on the device.
This option takes the equipment to a new level of ergonomics, control and visibility. Eliminating the conventional control levers, forward visibility of the equipment is significantly increased. The joysticks are assembled on the armrests and offer 6 different possibilities of adjustment, providing the best position for the operator and exceptional comfort.
Another advantage of this equipment is that the use of scroll buttons eliminates the need to twist the wrist of the operator, reducing the incidence of labor diseases. Besides the G900 motor graders, Volvo Construction Equipment is also taking to Brazil Road Expo 2014 soil compactors and asphalt pavers, products which are part of the Road Construction strategies of the Company.
Compaction
In the area of compaction, one of the highlights of the fair promises to be the line of Hamm roller 3520, within the range of 20 tons of operational weight, which are great options for large engineering works and earthworks, aiming to optimize the execution, with guaranteed high performance.
The 3520 models, drum road roller and the 3520P pad-foot drum road roller, are part of the 3000 Series, the third generation of Hamm rollers, one of the five brands that are part of the Wirtgen Group (Wirtgen, Vögele, Kleemann and Ciber).
Designed to run large jobs on soil compaction, rollers 3520 and 3520P feature three articulation points. A Hamm patent, this triple articulation ensures directional stability, shock cushioning in rough terrains, even distribution of weight on the rear axle during locomotion and safety against overturning.
Equipped with a powerful engine, it has a manufactured traction able to overcome the steepest slopes, even in vibration work mode. One of the great advantages of using the 3520 roller is the fuel consumption. Compared with two rollers with half the weight, this 20-ton roller has a consumption about 40% lower than the two lighter rollers.
For the 3520 drum road model, a HCQ compression gauge (Hamm Compaction Quality) can be configured, also called “compactômetro” (compacting gauge). This device informs the operator via indicator lights when the soil voids are filled, preventing excessive handling that can harm the compaction.
