The inaugural bauma Africa event, taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 18 to 21 September, has attracted both local and international attention, including that of companies carrying out the supporting program for the event.

One session of the supporting program will be presented by Dr. Chris Hinde. The half-day seminar “Mining Insight: The Industry Explained” will take place on Wednesday 18 September from 10:00 to 13:30 at Gallagher Convention Centre. The seminar will provide a comprehensive and straightforward explanation on how the global mining industry works, and will be beneficial for those wanting to develop more business opportunities in mining.

The seminar is aimed at individuals working within associated sectors including equipment manufacturers, service companies, legal firms and the finance industry. Also running alongside bauma Africa, on September 19, is the Construction Equipment Conference “ConECo” organized by the Contractors Plant Hire Association (CPHA). The conference will run from 8:30 to 15:00 at Gallagher Convention Centre, discussing industry related topics such as risk management, security and compliance, legislation, the economy, the international viewpoint, new developments and alternative financing. The “Working at Heights & Lifting Operations Conference” is another conference, taking place on 18 September. The Institute for International Research (IRR) will be presenting the one-day conference, endorsed by the Association of Mine Resident Engineers and the South African Colliery Engineers Association. The event will bring together leading safety experts from the industry to address current issues and developments in managing risk when working at heights or during lift operations, with a firm emphasis on best practice and safety excellence. Presentations will be made by Phakamisa Safety Consultants, Morris Cranes SA, Immortal Health & Safety, Johnson Cranes, Anglo American and Buildsafe. To register call IRR on 011 771 700 or e-mail [email protected].

“Global Issues in Concrete Construction – Markets, Perspectives, Technologies”, is another highlight in the supporting program of the premier bauma Africa event. Presenters have been chosen from around the world, with the symposium focusing on three major concerns – recent advances in international concrete technology, technological issues of South African cement and concrete market, and a survey of the concrete markets in regions all over Africa. The symposium will take place at Gallagher Convention Centre on September 18 and 19.
