Building and renovating in times of rising costs – Construction trade fair NordBau offers overview.

(Neumünster) With a good tailwind, planning for NordBau 2021 is in full swing. The date for the
66th NordBau in the Holstenhallen Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein is September 8 to 12,
2021. As the pandemic situation continues to improve, the construction industry and builders
can look forward to Northern Europe’s largest compact trade fair for construction.

“The declining infection figures, especially in Schleswig-Holstein, confirm that it was
it was right to have held on to the preparations for the implementation,” says Dirk Iwersen,
Managing Director Holstenhallen Neumünster.

Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister President Günther is looking forward to the opening of
NordBau

“In September, we will have a great deal more normality and therefore more will be possible
again. This also applies to events and trade fairs. Perhaps still with some hygiene and
protection measures. However, I am very confident to again have a NordBau as usual, with
many exhibitors and visitors. Amidst the pandemic, last September, NordBau, together with the
state government, was the only construction trade fair in Europe to make an alternative trade
exhibition possible,” says Minister President Günther. “The construction industry and the
craftsmen are and have been a mainstay during this difficult time, we continue to count on them
and vigorously support them.”

Plan with foresight and avoid cost traps!

Especially in times of high land prices, rising construction costs and raw material shortages, it is
important to get a good overview of the range of affordable building components. This is what
NordBau offers, especially with its numerous exhibitors from the the building construction. The
direct exchange between people interested in building, construction companies, architects and
engineers from the construction industry is essential in these times. This allows individual
building projects, ideas and challenges to be discussed and the best solutions to be sought.
Whether new construction or renovation – some situations cannot be postponed, so that also in
this time the realization of building projects must remain affordable.

The exhibitors of the NordBau advise the visitors in regards to their products, trends and tips to
implement solutions for attractive building at affordable costs. Dipl.-Ing. architect Dietmar
Walberg, managing director of the Working Group for Contemporary Construction registered
association. (ARGE) comments on it: “For construction, the current situation with the
development of individual material prices is not good – however there are no grounds for
hysterical reactions. With good planning and preparation, the use of regional building materials
and the involvement of competent architects and planners, a lot can be made possible. At the
ARGE stand, we will be happy to provide suggestions and advice on it.”

The opportunities for exchanges with experts and an individuell advice is also appreciated by
Alexander Blažek, chairman of owners’ association „Haus & Grund Schleswig-Holstein“. For its
over 70,000 members, he sees a great need for information, especially when it comes to the
conversion or renovation of used acquired or inherited real estates.

Petra Memmler, Association of North German Housing Companies „Verband norddeutscher
Wohnungsunternehmen (VNW)“, reports on the tense situation for her member companies:
“Within just a few months, the prices of many building materials have risen sharply and there
are increasing supply bottlenecks for certain materials.” This makes safe and sound planning
more difficult. “For this reason NordBau can contribute to serve as a forum for direct exchange
between builders and planners with the construction industry and the building trade to find
possible solutions or alternatives for affected projects,” hopes the VNW regional manager.

A second life for building materials, responsible use of increasingly scarce raw
materials!

With this year’s special theme “A second life for building materials – resource-efficient building
and civil engineering”, NordBau in Hall 8 not only draws attention to the responsible use of
valuable raw materials, which are currently scarcer than ever, but also offers a platform for all
those interested in and responsible for construction! High transport costs and growing problems
with hazardous waste are further factors that are putting a strain on the construction industry as
a whole. At the suggestion of the Working Group for Contemporary Construction, the Ministry
for Energy Transition, Agriculture, Environment and Digitalization of Schleswig-Holstein, in
cooperation with the Technical University of Applied Sciences Lübeck „Technische Hochschule
Lübeck“ and numerous associations, a special show will be realized on around 400 square
meters with exemplary products, solutions, studies and innovations. In addition, several
seminars will shed light on this topic. The topic is intended to show all those involved in
construction to identify ways of securing raw materials, avoiding hazardous waste, using
regional building materials, reducing transport costs and exploiting the opportunities offered by
recycling.

Facts, figures and data

On 69,000 square meters of open-air area and over 20,000 square meters of hall space,
NordBau impressively demonstrates its strength and position as the most important compact
exhibition for construction in Northern Europe and the entire Baltic Sea region. Numberous
seminars and events complete the fair format with a strong trade visitor frequency, whereby two
thirds of the seminars are recognised by the Chamber of Architects and Engineers of
Schleswig-Holstein (Architekten- und Ingenieurkammer SH), as official advanced training
events. Since 1956 exhibitors use the NordBau to reach the numerous trade visitors as well as
end customers (builders from the public as well as private sector). The fair is thus very
appealing for all those interested in construction, as well as those working in the construction
industry. Furthermore, NordBau has been cooperating with the neighbouring country, Denmark,
for over 45 years, which sees the trade fair as the basis for the German and European markets.
