“Towards a competitive industrial production for Europe” is the title of the conference of the construction equipment and agricultural machinery industry in Brussels on October 16, 2013.
Every two years the CECE- CEMA Summit provides a platform for business leaders of the sector to meet and discuss industry matters with representatives of the European institutions. This year’s event will take place in the political heart of the EU, directly within the European Parliament.
Ms Amalia Sartori , Member of the European Parliament and chair of the important Industry Committee of the Parliament, and Mr Massimo Baldinato, member of the Cabinet of EU Commission’s Vice-President Antonio Tajani, will open the event with their contributions. On behalf of industry Mr Olof Persson, President and CEO of Volvo Group, and Mr Andreas Klauser, Chief Operating Officer of Fiat Industrial and President of Case IH and Steyr, will outline the perspectives of the sectors and its requests to politics.
A panel discussion with politicians, legislators and industry leaders will look at the possibilities for a better set of “smart” sector specific regulations: How to make relevant product legislation more realistic, coherent, internationally aligned and most of all stimulating for innovations and competition instead of costly and burdensome? A second round, including Mr. Cem Peksaglam, the CEO of Wacker Neuson, will focus on the conditions for keeping a competitive production of construction equipment in Europe: The EU member states want to boost the weight of industrial production in Europe to 20% GDP by 2020. So, what should Europe’s politicians do for the sector, so that the construction equipment sector can contribute to the ambitious target? How can this work in a sector in which Europe’s share is getting smaller?
At the end of the event the Presidents of CECE and CEMA will sign a manifesto with a 10-point action plan to for a strong industrial production in Europe.
Following this high-level political event on 16 October, the next morning is dedicated to the annual CECE information sessions: The CECE Economic Forum will put a spotlight on the African market and the opportunities it offers for the construction equipment industry. Participants will also be offered a comprehensive overview of the European and global economy and the construction markets by specialists in economics and finance.
The joint CECE-CEMA Technical Forum highlights aspects relevant for upcoming exhaust emission legislation stages: like new requirements for air quality, engine technology, retrofitting old equipment with filters, the in-service conformity of engines and alternative fuels.
The conference is open to company representatives from the European construction equipment and agricultural machinery industry and invited guests. Due to the security requirements of the European Parliament all attendees must register online for the summit at www.cece-cema-summit.eu at least 14 days prior to the event.
