Construction Skills Retrofit Demos Come to Interbuild Onsite

Interbuild Onsite is launching a brand new retrofitting skills demonstration area at its 2010 show (17-20 October 2010, NEC, Birmingham) in recognition of the growing significance of this part of the construction industry. Delivered and supported by ConstructionSkills, the construction industry’s Sector Skills Council and Industry Training Board, the new Big Rig demonstration area promises to be educational and highly informative for anyone tasked with improving energy efficiency and retrofitting low and zero carbon technologies into existing buildings.
“The Big Rig will allow Interbuild Onsite visitors to gain advice on practical considerations specific to the refurbishment sector and understand how renewables and other energy efficient technologies can be installed correctly in a live environment” explains Alistair Collin, Head of Future Skills at ConstructionSkills. “The Rig will also be a great opportunity for visitors to ask questions and find out about certification and training for this growing area of the market.”
The Big Rig retrofitting feature will be a two storey demonstration area where visitors can see practical demonstrations covering a variety of retrofit techniques. It will also be a key information point for visitors looking to find the latest retrofit knowledge, requirements, training and certifications. Practical demonstrations here will centre on the installation of solar thermal, PV, solid wall insulation, general insulation, energy advice and thermal imaging. In addition, the Rig will also demonstrate the installation of both wind turbine bases and air source heat pumps.
Interbuild Onsite will include a number of other interactive feature areas for 2010, such as a dedicated Tool Demo Area, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) Professional Services Zone in association with Nissan, and a series of live flooring demonstrations run by FITA (Flooring Industry Training Association). Once again, Interbuild Onsite will co-locate in Hall 4 with Glassex, the premier event for the windows, doors and glazing markets. New for 2010 is BEST – Built Environment Solutions & Technologies – the new built environment exhibition, which will be held alongside both shows in Hall 5. These three events will come together to offer the ultimate built environment and construction event.
