NordBau 2018 sets the focus for planners and various trades on digital networking during construction and puts the trend “safe@home – Security at Home and SmartHome”, at the center of their special exhibition.

(Neumünster) The 63rd edition of the NordBau – the meeting place for the construction industry and all management in northern Europe – will take place at the Holstenhallen in Neumünster from the 5th to the 9th of September 2018.

Safe@home – safe, smart, comfortable and energy-saving!
Through the progressive digitalization in home and home automation control, numerous benefits are available for homeowners, real estate owners, as well as housing administrations: money can be saved not only on energy supply through new heating technologies, but also on the important issue of burglary prevention, new successful paths are pursued through digitization. Current developments in the field of sensor technology, which are installed inside the floors can, for example, mean more safety for senior citizens in supervised living. This also applies to modern kitchen appliances such as automatic switch-off cookers. On an area of 470 square metres, in the entrance hall south, hall 8, NordBau presents the great special exhibition on the diverse topics of safety and comfort at home. There architects, civil engineers, craftsmen, tenants and landlords will find a central contact point and independent specialist advice on the topics of smart home, security, innovative products, energy saving and home care with digital assistance. Supported by the North German Housing Company Association, the working group for contemporary construction, the construction trade association, the coordination office for innovative housing and old-age nursing of Schleswig-Holstein’s ministry for social affairs’, Schleswig-Holstein police and the interior ministry, the “safe@home” special exhibition provide all relevant digital applications for the home.

As the progressive digitization tends to result in skepticism regarding data and communication security, amongst more and more people, this special exhibition offers the opportunity to see the range of technical possibilities, market-available products and services, and it also offers targeted solutions with regards to sensitive data. Dietmar Walberg, managing director of the working group for contemporary construction (ARGE für zeitgemäßes Bauen), appreciates the increase in comfort through to the new possibilities, but also points out that: “SmartHome has developed into a real hype that explosively increases the construction costs. That is why it is important to set a bridge between what is technically possible today and what makes sense. NordBau has the mission to provide information in this regard and has lived up to its commitment since 1956”. Petra Memmler, Department of Technology and Energy of the Association of the North German Housing Company Association (VNW), wishes practical business models from the manufacturers of SmartHome applications: “To take the next step in the digital world in the domestic environment, industrial partners must approach the housing industry and introduce user-friendly and affordable products. In this way, we can live up to our acceptable social responsibility for our tenants in the world of digitization. NordBau offers the platform for this exchange between industry and the housing sector”.

Digitally, efficiently and cost-effectively implementing work processes in construction, using BIM
Digitization has long since arrived in the construction industry and offers great efficiency potential to all those involved in construction. However, the level of knowledge about digital planning and design varies greatly among the construction managers. In order to effectively and cost-effectively carry out planning and construction workflows, architects, engineers, craftsmen and the housing sector will find in hall 6 digital instruments, devices and new software to experience and try out.

Figures, dates and facts
Last year, NordBau once again impressively was able to demonstrate its strength and position as the most important construction fair in northern Germany and the entire Baltic Sea region, on an area of about 69,000 square meters and over 20,000 square meters of hall space: 849 exhibitors from 15 countries informed about 66,000 visitors on the new trends in the construction industry. A total of 4,300 conference participants attended the 50 symposia. Two-thirds of the conferences have been recognized by the Chamber of Architects and Engineers as an official training event. Through NordBau, exhibitors have since 1956 been able to reach trade visitors who visit the trade fair for professional reasons, as well as interested end customers (public and private clients). The fair is thus very appealing for all those interested in construction, as well as for those working in the construction industry. Furthermore, NordBau has been cooperating with her partner country, Denmark, for over 40 years, which sees the trade fair as the basis for the German and European market.

The 63rd NordBau edition takes place from the 5th to 9th of September 2018 at the Holstenhallen in Neumünster.
