International Trade Fair for Road Construction and Infrastructure Management ‘Viatec”, takes place again in 2013 from February 21 to 23 in Bolzano. Viatec is a high profile, niche exhibition, focusing on the challenges in construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and tunnels in zones with demanding climatic conditions. Bolzano, located in the heart of the Alps, is the ideal location for an event specialized in specific needs of mountain regions and has developed over the years into a sector meeting point for professionals from all over Italy and the neighboring alpine countries.
With the partnership of the most important public and private institutions, the ninth edition of Viatec shows a rich supporting program, in addition to qualified exhibitors from the fields of machinery and products for road construction and maintenance, tunnels and bridges, systems and products for work and traffic safety, road maintenance and snow removal, systems and equipment for traffic detection and management, landscaping and environmental, road signs and road equipment.
In a combination of theory and practice the program lists again, in addition to guided visits to construction sites, the international symposium “BrennerCongress” and the ceremony of granting the Brenner Awards. The specialized congress is organized in cooperation by the Brenner Base Tunnel BBT SE, the Brenner AG (A22), the Department of Road Service of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the Department of Public Works and mobility of the Autonomous Province of Trento and the University of Innsbruck. In addition to information about the implementation status of the Brenner Base Tunnel and its access routes, the BrennerCongress adresses current topics related to research and practice on transport infrastructure in the Alpine area. Preparations for this year’s edition are already in full swing and the full program will be available soon, as well as the possibility to register online. The main topics are “tunnel construction” and “Infrastructure life duration and maintenance” and after the high-profile speakers at the 2011 edition, for this year attendance is renewed for Prof. Dr. Konrad Bergmeister from the board of the Brenner Base Tunnel BBT SE, on the subject of life cycles in infrastructure as well as Alberto Lenisa, with the Department of Road service of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, with a contribution to the “health status” of 1758 bridges and guardrails along the 1087 km crash barriers on the average 40-year-old mountain roads in the province of Bolzano.
It is also discussed, in the lecture of Gerhard Harrer, about the “railway tunnels Koralmbahn (construction section 2) between Graz and Klagenfurt” as well as about the “critical section of the BBT in the Inn Valley”, in a contribution by Mr. Johann Herdina and “infrastructure projects as socio-economic systems” (Univ.-Prof. Walter Purrer). In addition also critical topics will be raised, such as the introduction of tolls on the Stelvio.
Ultimately, a poster session held with short lectures on the Brenner base tunnel research topics relevant to recognize innovative projects with the prestigious Torch Award, will be held during the congress. A jury of experts evaluates the participants in relation to content, poster layout and rhetoric, and the winner will be awarded during the BrennerCongress dinner, aside from the symbolic granite statue with the tubes of the BBT, with an award in for of a certificate and a compensation of 500 EURO for research work.
