Volvo CE wins Gold for construction industry

Olympians aren’t the only ones winning gold this month. Volvo Construction Equipment is awarded gold status in the I Make America campaign – a grassroots effort that supports the creation of jobs in America’s manufacturing industry.

Volvo CE is investing USD 100million to grow its manufacturing facilities in North America.
As the London 2012 Olympic games came to a close last week, America was celebrating after finishing top of the medal table – winning more gold medals than any other country in the world. Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) joined America’s gold-winning streak – awarded ‘gold status’ by The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) for its participation in the I Make America campaign. The campaign hopes to dramatically improve American manufacturing policies to create more jobs in the US and keep its economy competitive with other countries.
The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), with more than 850 member companies, announced that Volvo CE joins the elite ranks of the I Make America campaign’s gold-level company supporters. Volvo CE has shown continuous year-on-year dedication to this cause, expanding its sites, factories and work force in order to grow the industry. Last year, Volvo CE achieved silver status for its participation in the grassroots campaign, first launched in September 2010.
Since the campaign’s inception, Volvo CE has been heavily involved as a dedicated partner contributing to its overall success. By asking state legislators and members of Congress to pass new job development policies through ambitious construction projects and the restoration of the US’s ageing infrastructure, the company hopes it can make a difference.
“We commend Volvo CE for achieving Gold status in the I Make America campaign,” says Dennis Slater, president of AEM. “As a member of AEM, Volvo CE exemplifies the commitment we need from all manufacturers around the country to send the message to Congress and the White House that our economy is in urgent need of a new manufacturing policy that will generate jobs.”

CE has shown its dedication to the long-term development of the US construction industry following its USD100 million investment in its manufacturing facilities in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, which will bring more jobs and local manufacturing of core products to one of Volvo CE’s home markets. Volvo CE is creating a world-class customer and demonstration center in Shippensburg, as well as an Americas Headquarters facility on its current campus, further demonstrating its commitment to the North American market.

“We all want the best for America,” says Bill Law, Volvo CE Vice President of Corporate Communication for the Americas region. “Initiatives such as I Make America are excellent ways to focus everyone’s attention on using the muscle of the construction industry to get the giant wheel of the US economy spinning at top speed again.”
I Make America gold-Level supporters are an important group of companies. Many of the companies are industry leaders that have reached out to the state or local and federal legislators. The campaign has enlisted the support of more than 21,000 people nationwide so far, including industry organizations.
AEM membership comprises more than 200 product lines in the agriculture, construction, forestry, mining and utility sectors worldwide. Volvo has been involved with the I Make America campaign from the very beginning and has given I Make America presentations to its employees in their manufacturing facilities and sales organization.
“Our workforce is aware that, through properly thought-out legislation and well-funded infrastructure development, so many jobs and wealth have been created in recent decades,” adds Bill. “They are keen to support initiatives and legislation that will continue to create jobs.”
