Volvo Construction Equipment Region China has reached a milestone in its application solutions development, delivering the first ultra-long reach excavator to the market in June this year.
Long reach excavators are extremely popular in Region China, used for deep excavation work, basement digging, slope stabilization, mining and marine dredging. Therefore, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) decided to develop its solutions and have delivered its first ultra-long reach excavator – the EC220DLR with an 18-meters reach –to Inner Mongolia Liaoan Machinery (NMLA), a local Volvo dealership in China. The dealer received the machine on June 13 this year and it’s already working at a customer’s jobsite working on pond construction, excavation and building.
Chinese customers are used to purchasing long reach boom kits separately from the local market and then installing it on a standard machine. While this approach may reduce initial costs and have shorter lead times – the performance and life cycle costs of buying a long reach machine straight from a manufacturer are superior.
Volvo’s ultra-long reach solution is designed exactly for purpose, rather than being an aftermarket compromise. It also maintains the company’s premium reputation for its product and addresses three trends shaping the market – one being urbanization that demands specialized construction equipment such as long reach machines.
Meeting local needs
“By working closely with the global special application solutions team and different functions within Region China, we have managed to put together a product offering that can meet the needs of our customers in China,” says Rich Million, vice president Sales Support, Region China. “In a challenging and competitive market, these special application machines will help us increase sales and enhance Volvo CE’s reputation as industry experts in China.”
Volvo’s long reach solution covers five models from EC220DLR-EC480DLR while the ultra-long reach covers seven excavator models from EC140BLC-EC700CL. Competitively priced, the ultra-long reach machines feature increased counterweight with a smaller bucket size.
